Reduce violence in Ecuador

Peace and Hope is a Christian international peacebuilding and human rights organization that has been promoting justice and restoration in Ecuador for over 14 years.

Based in the most violent city in Ecuador, Peace and Hope works in low-resource, peripheral areas of Guayaquil, creating networks for protection, treatment, and reporting of abuse as well as community empowerment and advocacy to improve systems of justice and access to healing for victims of violence. Through preventive workshops, we inspire people to a life apart from violence. Through therapeutic attention, we bring restoration and growth for victims needing to process their trauma.

You have the opportunity to stand with the Peace and Hope team in Guayaquil as we implement programming to address the vast needs of those impacted by the current internal armed conflict. A few examples of what a financial partnership can achieve are included to show what is necessary for this healing, peace-building, violence-preventing work.

  • Mental health care and legal support for victims of abuse living in highly vulnerable communities.
    • $42.25 provides legal accompaniment for a victim of abuse
    • $211 walks a victim of violence through full mental health treatment
  • Violence prevention training programs aimed at holistic communal change with the topics of self-worth, combating gender-based violence, healthy masculinity, conflict resolution, and positive discipline through attachment-based parenting.
    • $89 brings a caregiver through our non-violent parenting training
    • $304 enables a child, teen, woman, or young man to participate in a ten week violence-prevention programming
  • Training for church leadership in emotional intelligence, leadership skills, pastoral counseling, and how to be agents for peace.
    • $18 equips a pastor with peace-building skills
  • Training school for youth where adolescents learn about service, community leadership, and collaborative advocacy.
    • $30 sponsors a teen attending a workshop
  • Trauma Healing Workshop for teens to process the violence and abuses that surround them in order to find resilience and healing.

Ask yourself if one of the above programs in Guayaquil aligns with a passion in your heart. Would you please pray about if God is leading you to partner with us?

Through this work we’ve seen justice and healing brought to individual lives, families, and communities. At the same time, over the years we’ve seen first-hand the decline of safety and stability in Ecuador as a whole, especially in the most vulnerable areas of Guayaquil. Many factors have led up to the nationwide state of emergency declared by the Ecuadorian government on January 8, 2024 and of the existence of an internal armed conflict as of January 9.

Families and communities across Ecuador were shaken when organized criminal gangs coordinated attacks against private, public, and government institutions. The fear and chaos produced by these actions brought to light the tragic reality of what many people who live in marginalized and vulnerable areas experience on a day-to-day basis.

In this time of uncertainty in our country, we see even more the importance of this work as we seek to bring about hope and healing for those impacted by violence, in all its forms. We invite you to partner with us in confronting violence with the transformative forces of peace and justice. Your generosity is critical for this restorative work.
