My name is Phillip Gibson. On July 23rd, I will be running a 64 mile race. Now, how is that different from other people running other races?? Well, I will be running to support Recovering Hope. Recovering Hope supports young survivors of sexual abuse in Huanuco, Peru receive the crucial legal and psychological services needed for a healthy, productive future. My goal is to raise $3,000 before the day of my race!

Recovering Hope is a group of volunteers in the Charlotte area who desire to serve the women, adolescents, and children at the Casa del Buen Trato shelter in Huánuco, Peru. Our hope is that every resident at the shelter would receive the best possible care and be able to return to a safe home.

The Casa del Buen Trato is a temporary shelter for children and adolescents who have been victims of sexual abuse, as well as women who have been victims of domestic violence. The shelter provides holistic care; including legal services, psychological therapy, emotional support, health care, social work services, pastoral care, education and life skills training. The shelter is not meant to be a permanent home for these survivors, but a place of protection, healing and empowerment. Once their homes and communities are safe again they are able to return home.
